TEETH WHITENING / BLEACHING

Teeth whitening is a procedure to get rid of the stains, marks, yellowing or dark spots on the surface of the enamel tissue of the teeth, done by bleaching agents that are compatible with mouth and teeth health. In conventional methods of cleaning, the enamel layer of the teeth may get damaged or become more sensitive after the treatment.

In Orenda Health, teeth whitening procedure is done by laser technology using compatible gels with less damage to the surface enamel layer of the teeth. In addition to cleaning the teeth, it adds more whitening effect to achieve better results with minimal intrusion.

Even though the procedure is easy and fast, the results may differ from person to person. The initial color of the teeth affects the outcome greatly.

The dentists in Orenda Health will want to treat the ongoing problems first before whitening the teeth, since the whitening agents may cause more sensitivity on unhealthy gums and teeth.

There are 2 types of Teeth Whitening methods:

Home-type Whitening

  • The dentist makes a thin silicon mold for your teeth
  • The whitening agent will be put inside the mold
  • Depending on the degree of preferred whitening, the mold will be kept on the mouth around the teeth for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Treatment will take about 1-2 weeks.

Clinic-type Whitening (Laser Whitening)

  • Whitening agent will be applied to the teeth by the professionals
  • LED or plasma light will be applied to the teeth for a designated time period
  • Whitening agent gets activated by the light source and whitening begins

In Clinic-type whitening, each session takes about an hour. At least 2 sessions are needed. Depending on the desired whiteness, the dentists may recommend continuing the treatment at home with home-type whitening kits.

FAQ

People who already have healthy teeth can benefit from the whitening treatment. The teeth and gums must be in a healthy condition to start with the whitening. Ongoing problems such as gum infection, rotten teeth, unhealed root canal, unadhered implants may cause more sensitivity or even infection if whitening agents are applied.

Depending on the structure of the teeth and the enamel density, it can last up to 6 months. If the patient is consuming colorant foods and drinks on daily basis, such as cigarettes, coffee, black tea, red wine, berries, spices like turmeric etc. it will make the whitening last a lot lesser than it supposed to. Oral hygiene is also very important to keep the teeth whiter and cleaner. The dentists in EU Health will recommend which type of oral hygiene products to use to make the whitening effect last longer.

Dental whitening agents act on the second layer of the teeth, which is dentin. In order to reach the dentin layer, the whitening agents needs to surpass the first enamel layer. This permeation can cause a mild sensitivity on the teeth, but it will quickly pass and will not stay longer.

The activity of the whitening agent is dependent on the structure of the patient’s teeth. The whitening agent surpasses the enamel layer and acts on the dentin layer of the teeth. Dentin is the second layer of the tooth. If the enamel of the teeth are inherently more yellowish, the whitening will be less prominent. If the patient prefers to have fully white teeth like celebrities, they should consider getting dental veneers, since the color of the veneers can be chosen and changed.
