BROW LIFTING

Brow lifting is consisted of various methods in order to change the appearance of the sagging brows. Either by age or genetics, or due to different reasons over the years, upper eye skin under the brows, and the skin of the brow area can get lower and appear saggy and droopy.

Causes of droopiness on the brows:

  • Lack of nutrients and vitamins
  • Exposure to excessive sunlight
  • Stress
  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • Air pollution
  • Lack of skin care
  • Aging
  • Face tumors
  • Frowning

Brow lifting can also get rid of the wrinkles caused by frowning on the middle section of the eyes just above the root of the nose. The forehead wrinkles because of the saggy skin of the forehead can be gotten rid of too. Combination of these changes will also make the nose line seem taller.

Brow lifting operation can be combined with other surgeries too, such as; forehead tightening, eyelid surgery, temple tightening, face fillers etc.

There are 2 types of methods; surgical and non-surgical brow lifting.

Non-Surgical Methods of Brow Lifting

Brow filling

Botox fillings are applied in tiny doses to the area in a way to not constrict the movement of the brow and the muscles. The application is done in 5-10 minutes since it is a non-surgical method. The results of the filling will be finalized in a week and will last up to 6 months. The patient can choose to renew the application 2 times a year.

Focus Ultrasound Lifting

This is a non-surgical method that uses focused sound waves (ultrasound) to tighten to skin and promote regeneration of the cells. It is possible to reach 4.5 mm under the skin without leaving any marks. The application takes about 10-15 minutes. The immediate effect of the application is 40%, although the final results will be visible in approximately 3 months.

Surgical Methods of Brow Lifting

Endoscopic Brow Lifting

Classical brow lifting operation, also known as temple tightening operation, is done by making incisions on the temples and then tightening the skin towards the temples to lift the brows. The operation is done under general anesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours. Depending on the operation sensitivity, the patient can leave the hospital on the same day or on the next day of the operation. Bruising and swelling will go down in 2-3 days. You can shower after 2 days, and go back to work after 3 days from the operation.

Thread (string) Brow Lifting

This operation is done under local anesthesia. The shape of the brow is determined first. The threads are used to bind the tissues under the skin. Without any incisions, the threads are sent under the skin with special needles and the tightening is done by attaching the threads onto the scalp. The threads can last up to 3-5 years, and dissolve naturally after they expire. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. The patient can go back to normal daily life after the procedure.

FAQ

A browlift is for women whose eyebrows are low and wish to improve the appearance of their forehead and eyes. Patients must be healthy enough to undergo an elective operation.

If the surgical classical method was applied for brow lifting, some nausea may occur after the general anesthesia. Swelling and bruising will subside usually in a week. Ointments and anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial medication will be recommended for the sutured area. Post-operation care will be instructed to the patient by the doctors. The patient should take great care of the affected area and avoid any harsh impacts around the face/forehead/hairline/brows. If the hair is long, it shouldn’t be worn as a tight ponytail not to hurt the temples.

If the surgical classical method was chosen for brow lifting, the patient should inform the doctors about any medical history, allergies, routine medications, alcohol and smoking habits. Any ongoing or chronic illnesses should be discussed with the doctor before the surgery. Full blood work is also recommended. If the patient is smoking, to reduce the inflammation and to make the healing faster, the patient should quit smoking at least 2 weeks before the surgery.

Over the years the brows can grow droopy due to various reasons. In young and middle-ages patients, non-surgical methods of brow lifting may be more suitable, and may not require other supplementary applications such as eyelid surgery. In elder age group, due to the elasticity of the skin, surgical methods can be more favorable. The method of the lifting can be determined by discussing with the doctor according to the patient’s needs and current situation. Some patients can opt for non-surgical but temporary methods; and some patients would like to choose surgical and more permanent options. Some patients may also want to combine the operations such as; facelifting, brow lifting, face fillers and more. According to your choices and the needs of your face, doctors will help you to determine which method can be more beneficial, and if can be combined with other operations too.
