LABIAPLASTY

Labiaplasty is a procedure to shrink the labia minora, the flaps of skin on either side of the vaginal gaping. Surplus skin can get curved and squeezed, causing distress during exercise, proactive tasks and intercourse. Besides, the Labiaplasty is done for aesthetic reasons and as part of gender reassignment surgery.

Your labia are crimps of skin around your vaginal gaping. The skin has two crimps. The outer crimps are called the labia majora. These crimps preserve your external genitalia and are the large fleshy part that become covered with pubic hair after puberty. The inner crimps are called the labia minora. This part preserve the opening of your urethra and vagina.

The Procedure of Labiaplasty

First of all, some tissue are taken from the labia to decrease its size. A filler material or fat is infused  into the labia to amplify it. Then, labia is consituted  from other tissue. If surgery is part of the sex reassignment process, the labia can be consitute using existing genital tissue. There is no harm in performing labiaplasty before or after other reconstruction surgeries.

You will be given instructions on what to wear, when to stop eating and drinking, how much to use certain medications and information about your surgery. The labia and surrounding skin are cleaned and if necessary  your pubic part is shaved. The surgeon decides whether it will be general anesthesia or local anesthesia. This surgery is usually performed with a scalpel, scissors or laser. Labiaplasty takes about two hours.

There are several techniques for Labiaplasty procedure:

In the trim technique, your surgeon removes excess tissue from the outer edge of one or both sides of the interior, so that the interior is retracted.

In the wedge technique, your surgeon removes a wedge or triangle-shaped piece of tissue from the inner areas of one or both sides of the labia minora. The submucosa is left intact so that the wrinkled edge of the labia remains intact when suturing the labia. This process provides  more natural look for the labia minora.

In the enlarging technique, to enlarge your inner lips, some fat is taken from areas like the abdomen or thighs and injected into your inner lips in Orenda Health with provided high quality techniques.

Menopause or other hormonal changes can thin the tissue of the outer skin causing the inner skin to sag.

Some Risks of the Labiaplasty in Rare

Bleeding , buising , too much tissue or not enough tissue is removed , wound breakdown , ongoing pain, pain with sex or loss of sensitivity and the Infection.

Labiaplasty Recovery

You'll feel some swelling, discomfort, and pain, but it's usually easy to manage with acetaminophen or over-the-counter medication.

 It is useful in methods such as cold compresses or ice packs. Put ice on the surgical area every 20 minutes to reduce pain and swelling. 

You may be prescribed oral or topical antibiotics that you can apply to your wound to prevent infection.

 During the recovery period, loose pants and underwear should be worn. You may bleed for up to a week. You can use a mini pad to prevent bleeding. Use only warm water to wash your wound.

You can return to work and other light activities after a few days. It is not recomended lift heavy things for a while. You should avoid physical activities such as cycling, running and swimming , sexual intimacy and the strenuous exercise for four to six weeks.
